Hoek Seedlings is a family operated seedling nursery in Pongola, in northern Kwa-Zulu Natal. It is being operated by the Welken Family and has three generations of quality seedling growing experience.

The nursery started in the 1972 as an ornamental plant nursery, specialising in garden plants and specimens for the landscaping market. It soon realised the needs for superior quality commercial vegetable seedlings for farmers in the region. By the late 1970’s to early 1980’s, the vegetable and timber seedlings produced in seedling trays were a brand new concept to farmers. Hoek Seedlings was a pioneer in the movement from seedbeds to growing seedlings in quality seedling trays. We soon established a solid and very loyal customer base. We showed steady growth throughout the 1980’s and started producing superior quality timber seedlings in 1985.

Hoek Seedlings is a very well known nursery throughout the region and the industry. We always had a passion for growing superior seedlings and in that principle lies the seed of our inspiration to keep at the forefront of innovation and grow into the industry leaders of quality vegetable and timber seedlings.

Our motivation lies deeply imbedded in our fundamental business philosophy: “Farmers First”. Through serving our farmers – and the agricultural community at large – putting farmers’ needs first, making sure our success is only as big as our farmers’ success. Serving our farmers with superior quality vegetable and timber seedlings. Our farmers define who we are.

We are a fully registered nursery with the Seedling Growers Association of South Africa (SGASA) and fully BBBEE compliant.
